A Guitar's Story cd cover
Cinematic tributes to a beloved cat and a rolling railway train are found on Gordon’s latest recording, A Guitar’s Story, released on the artist’s independent label, Woodnight Records. “I wanted to capture some of my recent explorations into sound, technique, and composing and arranging and present them as a personal tale told through my guitar” says the St. John’s-based solo acoustic guitarist. Other original new works drawing on the artist’s personal experiences and memories include the impressionistic “Haystack Lament”, a composition about his parents’ former home in Placentia Bay, and “A Night of Shimmering Stars” commemorating a starry van Gogh sky during an extraordinary visit to Cape St. Mary’s on the Avalon Peninsula. Also featured are some of Gordon’s favourite and most requested traditional melodies such as “Amazing Grace”, “House of the Rising Sun” and “The Dawning of the Day”. The recording was produced by Gordon and Craig Young at Craig’s studio in Paradise, NL.

Gordon recently received the 2013 Instrumental Artist/Group of the Year award by MusicNL, Newfoundland and Labrador’s music industry association, for his work on A Guitar’s Story. “It was a tremendous honour to be recognized this way by the members of MusicNL and I’m very grateful to them.”
